My friend wants to go to New York for a weekend on her own to get away from everything and do some sightseeing. Call me paranoid but I thought New York wasn't a very safe place for a woman to be traveling alone.

I'm worried she'll end up going to the wrong areas or using transport she shouldn't because she's a wanderer and scared of nothing. Where can I suggest to her she goes and where to avoid, if anywhere?

I admit I've never been and neither has she. Perhaps I have the wrong impression from watching too much TV. No offence to any New Yorkers. I just want my friend to have a nice time and come back safe and sound.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
