I wrap my cat in a towel and use a syringe. She is a pretty agreeable cat, though. If she were more difficult, I would have someone else hold her in a towel while I gave the medicine.
get a medicine syringe for dispensing pediatric medicine from the pharmacy. most give them free of charge. rub tuna or other food your cat likes on the outside. hold cat on lap and tip head back. when she/he opens to lick the food off, squirt it deep in the back of the throat. because of the immediate gag, the throat will open up and it will be swallowed.
Find a cat treat that is on the smallish side. Small enough to be eaten in one bite. Hallow it out then fill it with the medicine seal it of with some liverwurst. Make sure the liverwurst was in the fridge for a little so it will seal well. The smell of the treat and the overpowering liverwurst should make them eat it greedily enough to ensure delivery.
Put it in the cat's water. If the cat isn't drinking water, then try eyedroper. You can keep the cat's mouth open by putting a rubber stick between its teeth and drop the medicine with the eye dropper.
Lay out a towel on a table or counter. Put the cat in the middle of the towel, wrap up the cat burrito style so that just the head is sticking out. Make sure the towel is snug enough so the cat can't get its legs out, but not too snug around the neck that it can't breathe.
Then put your body up against the table/counter so you can put the cat against your body and under your arm and hold the cat against you with your whole arm. You should be able to use that arm also to hold the cat's head with your hand. Use your other hand to give the medication right behind the canine teeth.
That can be a tough one. I feel for you. You may be able to mix it in with their water/milk or food. It has worked for me in the past, but I'm not totally sure if it alters the medicinal effects or not. This has also worked well for my sister.
My sister would also douse some catnip with it since they can't seem to resist it.
If this doesn't work, I would recommend a more aggressive approach. Hold the cat(tightly) or have someone else hold it. If you pinch the sides of their mouth/jaw about where the TMJ is, then they are forced to open their mouth. You can then squirt the meds straight into their mouth. Keep holding their mouth open and they will be forced to eventually swallow. Once this happens, then you can release. Sounds a little cruel, but it really isn't bad. And it works.

They won't be happy, but they will get the medicine.
