I am in need of a vacation and it is time for me to take one.

I have narrowed the choices down to four locations for a 5 day trip I am planning.

Where should I go?

Go to new york and follow do something like this http://www.tripadvisor.com/GoListDetail-i128-Three_perfect_days_in_New_York_City.html
I stumbled upon this when I wanted to go to New York.

Your vacation schedule is very tight. If it is for some more time, I would have suggested you to visit India and have a glimpse of its uniqueness, cultural diversity and many many other things you will love to share with your near and dear ones.

Choose a destination which is new to you. IE: Go somewhere you haven't been yet...you only live once!

Can you really beat "NYC,The City that never Sleeps" Everything from entertainment on Broadway to culture and history. Never ending chooses in epicurean delights. Shopping for every budget. Take a ride in a horse drawn carriage with your lady friend and enjoy the wonders of NYC, you will never get bored. Have fun!

All of these cities have something amazing to offer. I personally love NYC, because around this time of year there is just so much going on. The weather creates a serious mood to cuddle and be close. NY is just beautiful. Research some amazing things you can get in to while you are there with your special lady (as I have read in your previous comment). Find something that she likes to do, and have the time of your life.

It would be nice to have a little more information such as: have you been to any of these cities/states before, your ages, things you like to do on vacation, hobbies, looking for a sight-seeing vacation or a relaxing vacation, etc.

Looking at the areas you are considering, it looks like you might be interested in a sight-seeing vacation rather than a sit-on-the-beach vacation. If that’s the case, I would recommend New York City. Assuming you have never been, you will not run out of things to do in the “City that Never Sleeps!” Even if you have been before, there are probably many things you were not able to see or do. Beware – you might need a vacation when you get home! Aside from seeing historic landmarks like the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, or a Broadway show, you could take a walk through Times Square, Central Park, or Greenwich Village. (Don’t miss a walk through FAO Schwartz, next door to the Apple store, even though you won’t have any children with you). A day filled with eating falafels on the street, skating at Rockefeller Center, buying Pashmina scarves on the street corner and buying designer clothing at Century 21 Department Store at a discount, would end nicely with dinner at the quaint restaurant Serendipity (yes, the one in the movie).

Check out the NYC bus tours that are “hop-on/hop-off”. They are a good investment as they are reasonably priced and you won’t have to worry about where to go next. Do not use these at night! Wear warm clothing and comfortable shoes or boots at this time of year as you will probably do a bit of walking. We in the northeast tend to wear “peelable” clothing when the weather starts to get cold. And pay attention to your surroundings, not only for safety, but you just might spot a Hollywood star!

Thanks for all of the feedback.

Just to clarify for you all, I am a single professional and will be taking a lady friend with me.

Well, I have given vote to San Francisco. However, all the 5 places which you mentioned have something unique to offer. I don't know about your taste and likings otherwise, I would have suggested you the best option. The real fun is inside you. When you are happy from inside, you find pleasure in every moment of it. Go to any place having lots of joys inside and you will find pleasure all the way around.

This is a tough decision, being that I don't know what type of vacation you are truly planning. Is this a Family vacation with children, a romantic getaway or Party Time. I think I will select New York with the lights, art, theater and the history.

Screw those four places, even though I really like Boston, but it is not the time of year to go there for vacation. For the perfect 5 day vacation you can fly to Aruba just as cheaply and stay at one of the two side-by-side Marriott properties (inexpensive and excellent). The cost will be same or less as those four and the experience FAR better. Scuba, Snorkeling, Beach, Boats, Sunset, Wind Surfing, Para-sailing etc. Go to http://bit.ly/asqgro to see pics from my recent time there. It is awesome and really not that expensive.

Hello!

I may be biased since I was born and raised in Orlando, Florida and spent the majority of my career working at Disney, but I think it would be a fab choice for a 5-day trip. I'm actually headed there this weekend!

I'd be happy to give you any "inside" travel tips, as I know the parks, resorts and property inside and out.

NYC is very expensive for 5 days and San Francisco might be chilly (it's a cool city), but depends on when you're visiting.

Lots to do in Orlando...my two cents!

Happy Travels!

San Francisco is just right for 5 days no matter what time of year. It's a small enough city, that is full of enough pockets to explore on top of the tourist things. The weather is pretty consistent throughout the year, back and forth with fog and sun, but it'll be warmer than the East Coast for sure. Florida will be nice if you like Disney World and resorting. :]

I agree with SDW911, more details would certainly help, including where you are leaving from, as 5 days is not a very long vacation and you don't want to miss lots of it for travel.

Personally, I think the choice is simple: San Francisco. It gorgeous, warm pretty much all the time, and has so much to do.

New York is fun if you like big buildings, broadway shows, and expensive bars/restaurants. Massachusettes is nice if you like chilly beaches, clam chowder, and small towns with lots of charm. And I've never been to Orlando...

If you have never done so already, go to New York City to watch the ball drop for 2011. The brightly lit backdrop of the city against the white snow would be beautiful. If you like festive atmospheres and crowds, an adventure like that is sure to please.

This would be an easier choice if you gave a little more info on yourself. Do you have kids? Is this an adult vacation? Holiday vacation? Like to Party or relax? Are ya 20 or 70?
