The Death Penalty
I feel like everyone has to have an opinion on this issue, even if your opinion is, "I don't know enough about that to comment on such a serious issue."
I wrote about the death penalty for the Maryland Policy blog today because we are considering starting executions again in our state after four years without them.
For those who may be interested, here is the link to the entry:

For those who don't have tons of time to read, here are my thoughts distilled down to one paragraph:
"I am not a criminal, so perhaps I do not think as criminals do, but the thought of sitting in a jail cell every day for the rest of my life with only my guilt to keep me company would be a much stronger deterrent than a painless execution. The fact that so many perpetrators of violent crimes choose to take their own lives rather than give themselves up to the police suggests that they feel the same way."
What are your thoughts on capital punishment? Discuss.
And what about all those wrongly convicted? I know most people can't seriously believe that human error doesn't occur? I don't believe the legal justice system is always completely legal and just, and that only fair and accurate trials exist.
I don't think one person should be killed by the state who is innocent. I know there are a lot of people in prison who deserve to be there, but there are those who don't.
I would however kill someone myself if they did something to me so terrible that I honestly believed they should die for it.
