Turning a Slob Neat
I have heard it said that you can't change a slob into someone neat and organized, but I honestly don't believe it. To me, I see it as a simple habit. If I can quit cigarettes then I can stop being messy -- at least that's the way I see it.
But some people seem to think this is a genetic thing, or at least so ingrained that change is impossible.
Any success stories? Tips, tricks, or hints? I want to make some good progress on this one.
Thanks.
However, if you realize it, you can change little by little. It takes about 14 days to change a habit as long as you stick to doing the new habit consistently.
Start with small things like always putting clothes in a hamper. Have a day that you wash them. This will become a habit. Once it is a habit, start something new like always throwing away your trash. Once this is a habit, start a new thing like always replacing DVDs after they've been watched.
Obviously, I don't know if you have these problems, but each little probably you have, give it the 14 days . . . maybe 21 days . . . and then start on a new one to make yourself less messy.
A slob will stay a slob until he/she makes a conscious decision to clean up.
Here's my biggest tip for getting organized. find a large cardboard box and place it somewhere out of the way. Now go through your home and start tossing anything into the box that you are not using, have not use or will never use again.
Close the box and let it sit there for a couple of weeks. After this time take the box and everything still in it to the dump, do not open it before hand.
Good luck,
Elaine
