Who here has quit smoking?  What method did you use?  What advice would you give to someone who wants to quit?

i quit smoking by using dum dum suckers i know it sounds wierd but its true i didnt like the patch it itched all the time and as far as advice id give someone is to THROW away the ash trays dont put em up set a goal it is very important!!! and stay busy

Why not try the new electronic cigarettes I've been hearing about so much lately. These e-cigarettes have been touted as a great method of quitting smoking. Cartridges for these cigarettes come in different flavors and strengths, which could also help someone quit. Apparently nicotene unto itself is not dangerous or even co-carcinogenic. The thousands of other chemicals in regular tobacco are not present in the e-cigarettes.

Try dry nuts, bubble gums, exercise and table games. When I quited smoke those things were precious for my health and mind.

What we have found successful was to focus on the first cigarette of the day. The key is to break the cycle. As an example, if you get up and the first thing you do is have a cigarette, then change that one small item. The key is to keep yourself occupied for that first ten or so minutes. We found a gradual weaning worked very well with that starting point. Over time you keep moving when that first cigarette will be.Why give your body that first rush in the am, which creates the need want and desire for more. Small successes will assist you in achieving the desired result. The last lady we asisted with this is still smoke free after 6 years, and she can be around smokers with out having to have one. Her own words to us are that she enjoys the way food tastes, and the health of her lungs. All the best in your drive for a healthier you.

Quiting addiction is difficult. What is more difficult are the consequences of not quiting. All this methods are useful, but more important is your will. When you make up your mind to quit, stick to it. Don't give room for exceptions. If you do, it will all come crashing down. Also confide in someone you trust and respect. Tell them about your intensions to quit. Make a plan and stay with it until you are free of the addiction. Also keep away from places of temptation. Also believe that it's possible to quit.

I didn't quit smoking, but then I never started! My best friend though, he did it. He tried patches, gum, etc, most of it failed.
He decided to do it a few days after his birthday, he went to a vapor smoker and used it pretty often to supplement and control his nicotine intake. He didn't need the patch because the doses of the patch were much higher than he was into buying.
He didn't like the gum either.
He had weaned himself down to one smoke once a day when his smoker suddenly failed. He looked at buying a new one, and saw the price tag. He'd been given the first one for free, and he just said "F it. I'm going to quit now." It was a difficult three months after that. He had a lot of mood swings, but he was determined to quit and I always showed up to support him and hold his hand when the angry desires to smoke gripped him terribly. It wasn't easy. He would hold his head in his hands and scream at times because he was fighting the addiction. It was very troubling for me to watch, but I just kept him company and I was there every time he called.
