Setting Business Goals

While I am at it asking about tips getting a job in a down economy, I wanted to pick the brain of the collective online community about setting business goals.

I started thinking about this issue over the weekend when I met with my boss and he asked me to think of some goals for this quarter and next.  He favors goals with numbers attached because they are easier to tell if you have achieved them or not, which seems like sound practice to me.

So what about you?  What advice would you offer when setting business goals?  Do the same rules apply as personal goals?  Is it a different process if you own the business than if you are simply working for one?
